Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi has called on the 13 newly elected council chairmen and 171 councillors in the state to take full advantage of local government autonomy to drive more developmental projects in their constituencies.
Speaking on Sunday during the inauguration ceremony of the chairmen and councillors, Nwifuru urged them to align with the state government’s “People’s Charter of Needs” agenda. “Ensure that you undertake initiatives that will enhance the beauty of our state. Don’t be swayed by gossip, and remember, we must safeguard our limited resources for the benefit of our people,” he said.
The governor emphasized the importance of prioritizing infrastructure development in their areas, despite the challenges they may face. “Your first task is to bring infrastructure to your area. There will be challenges, but I pray God will be with you,” he added.
Nwifuru also encouraged the newly sworn-in council chairmen to collaborate closely with traditional rulers and security agencies to maintain peace within their jurisdictions. “Do not overlook the vital role of traditional rulers in community development. You need their support and should prioritize the well-being of residents. Also, work harmoniously with your councillors to avoid unnecessary conflicts that could hinder the progress of your councils,” he advised.
Mr. Moses Nome, Chairman of Ezza-North, speaking on behalf of the other chairmen, expressed gratitude to the governor for his support and pledged to uphold state government policies to further the state’s progress.
Pathwaynews reports that the Ebonyi Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the July 20 local council polls, securing all 13 chairmanship seats and 171 ward councillor positions across the state.
