Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has hailed women as the essential pillars that ensure the lasting progress of society, especially during tough economic times. Speaking on Tuesday at the 2024 Abia Women August Delegates Conference held at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, Otti acknowledged the critical role women play in the survival of families through their exceptional managerial skills.
The governor emphasized that the conference provided an opportunity to reflect on past achievements and strategize for a brighter future. He highlighted the importance of learning from the organizational and resourceful capabilities of women, who have consistently demonstrated their ability to mobilize and uplift communities.
Otti expressed his joy in celebrating the contributions of Nigerian women, noting that their happiness and well-being positively impact homes and communities. He urged society to support women in fulfilling their vital roles, acknowledging that much of his administration’s progress has been driven by the insights and contributions of women in governance.
The governor’s wife, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, also spoke at the event, describing it as a great time to be a woman in Abia. She praised the women-friendly policies of Otti’s administration, which have provided opportunities for women to excel in various fields. Mrs. Otti introduced the “Every Home a Garden Competition,” a project initiated by Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, aimed at encouraging women to engage in backyard gardening as a means of addressing food scarcity.
Both the governor and his wife called on women to continue their invaluable contributions to society, emphasizing that their efforts are crucial in overcoming current economic challenges and building a better future for Abia State.
