Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the sharp increase in prices of goods and services following the curfew imposed during recent protests. The governor’s concerns were outlined in a statement released by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday.
At a meeting held at the Government House in Kano, Yusuf noted that prices of essential commodities, particularly staple foods, surged to unprecedented levels shortly after the curfew was relaxed. He called on stakeholders to collaborate in efforts to bring down these prices and urged the business community to consider the hardships faced by residents during this period of nationwide unrest.
The governor proposed the creation of a price control board to address what he termed as artificial inflation and encouraged businessmen to work together to revive dormant industries across the state. He also expressed a willingness to facilitate an interactive session between business leaders and state parliamentarians to support local enterprises.
Muhuyi Magaji RiminGado, Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), reported that the agency had received 156 complaints in the past two days concerning the surge in basic commodity prices. He assured that the commission would collaborate with the business community to ensure stable business practices in the state.
