Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Haruna Yunusa Danyaya as the 17th Emir of Ningi. Alhaji Haruna, the first son of the late Emir Yunusa Muhammad Danyaya, succeeds his father, who passed away at the age of 88.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Comrade Mukhtar Gidado. The appointment was made under the powers granted by the laws of Bauchi State, specifically Cap. 24 Item 3(1) of the Appointment of Emirs/Chiefs and Deposition 1991, and based on the recommendation of the kingmakers.
The appointment was officially conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Barrister Ibrahim Mohammed Kashim.
Governor Mohammed expressed confidence that the new Emir would uphold the legacy of his late father by promoting unity, peace, and development within the Ningi Emirate and Bauchi State at large. The Governor reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting traditional institutions, recognizing their vital role in maintaining peace and fostering progress in communities.
Governor Mohammed also offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the late Emir’s soul and extended his warm felicitations and prayers for good health, long life, and a successful reign for the new First Class Emir.
The late Emir Yunusa Muhammad Danyaya passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024, and was buried the same day in accordance with Islamic traditions. During the burial, Governor Mohammed publicly acknowledged that the late Emir had expressed a desire for his successor to come from the royal family.
