Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the metropolitan areas of Kaduna and Zaria.
In a statement released on Monday, the Overseeing Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, announced, “The Kaduna State Security Council, under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, has reviewed the security situation in the state and found substantial evidence that the ongoing protests have been hijacked by criminal elements engaged in looting shops and destroying both private and public property.”
“In light of this unfortunate development, the Kaduna State Security Council has unanimously decided to impose a 24-hour curfew on the Kaduna and Zaria metropolises and surrounding areas, effective immediately.”
The statement urged residents to stay indoors as security forces work to restore and maintain safety in the affected areas.
“Monitoring will continue, and the curfew will be reviewed as necessary,” the statement added.
