On Monday evening, gunmen killed four policemen and a Point of Sale (POS) operator in Irete community along Onitsha Road, in the Owerri West council area of Imo State.
Reports indicate that the assailants, who were fleeing, opened fire on the policemen who were conducting a stop-and-search operation near AA Rano and Global fuel stations along Onitsha Road, gunning them down.
Four officers and a POS operator were confirmed dead in the attack, and the perpetrators fled the scene.
The spokesperson for the police in the state, Henry Okoye, has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the incident.
