Peter Odemwingie, the former Super Eagles forward, has revealed that the shift from football to golf was a significant challenge for him.
Odemwingie retired from football six years ago after a successful career with teams in Russia and England. Now 43, he completed golf school last month and is a professional in the sport.
The former Lokomotiv Moscow player attributes his success to his Nigerian spirit, which helped him overcome the difficulties he faced.
“I am someone who has a goal. I gave it a good shot. It was hard,” Odemwingie told Channels Sport. “People quit this degree in year two; many boys can’t cope with the volume [of study]. It was hard. But my Nigerian spirit helped me persevere through year two when there was a lot to do study-wise.”
During his football days, Odemwingie played for Premier League clubs like West Brom, Cardiff City, and Stoke City. He also represented Nigeria in two FIFA World Cups, scoring 11 goals for the three-time African champions.
