Human rights lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor, who represents the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has denounced a disturbing call for the poisoning of Igbo children as an incitement to violence and a grave affront to humanity.
The call was made by a Nigerian resident in Austria, identified only as Kingsley, in a TikTok post urging the Benin people of Edo State to poison Igbo children wherever they are found.
Reacting to this, Ejiofor expressed profound outrage and condemnation. In a statement, he described the call as both callous and appalling. He emphasized that no grievance against the Igbo community justifies such heinous and inhumane rhetoric.
“My attention has been drawn to a viral TikTok post by an individual identified as Kingsley, calling for the poisoning of Igbo children. Such vile statements are not only incitements to violence but also a direct affront to the principles of humanity,” Ejiofor said.
He further stressed that no level of grievance could justify violence against innocent children, condemning the hatred and bigotry expressed in the post. Ejiofor also noted that while recent hate speech by Amaka Patience Sunnberger was a reaction to this, responding with further hatred only exacerbates the situation.
Ejiofor called on all individuals to reject such violent rhetoric and advocate for peaceful dialogue and understanding. “We must protect our children and ensure they grow up in a world where they are valued and safe, regardless of their ethnic background. True resolution comes through peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement, allowing for diverse viewpoints to be expressed and respected,” he added.
