The Borno Police Command has reported that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion resulted in the death of one man and left eleven others injured during a protest in Maiduguri.
Police Commissioner Yusuf Lawal disclosed the incident on Friday, noting that the explosion occurred at Deribe Junction near the Federal Government Girls’ College Monguno (FGGC) Annex in the Bulumkutu area.
The injured victims have been transported to the State Specialist Hospital Maiduguri for treatment, while the deceased has been sent for autopsy. The police quickly deployed the Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) team from Base 13 to secure the area around a nearby filling station.
In a separate incident, a case of culpable homicide was reported in Biu Local Government Area. Muhammad Wakshama reported that his son-in-law, Ibrahim Bulama, assaulted his wife, Maryam Ibrahim, with a stick, causing severe injuries. Maryam was taken to the General Hospital Biu but was confirmed dead on Thursday. The suspect has been arrested, and an exhibit has been recovered as the investigation continues.
These incidents have brought the total number of deaths in the state to 17 within the past 48 hours, with numerous others injured. Commissioner Lawal assured citizens that investigations are ongoing and that efforts are being made to restore normalcy.
