The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported new voter registration figures for Edo and Ondo states. According to Mr. Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Edo State has seen 119,206 new registrations, while Ondo State has recorded 58,708 new voters.
Olumekun made this announcement in an analysis released on Monday in Abuja. He noted that these numbers do not account for 8,847 voter transfer applications into Edo and 3,132 into Ondo from other states. Additionally, transfers within the two states are not included, as they are already reflected in the voters’ register.
Previously, on June 11, INEC had provided preliminary figures for new voter registrations in anticipation of the governorship elections in these states. These figures were followed by data cleansing using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).
“The figures for new voters in Edo are 119,206, and in Ondo, 58,708. This excludes the inter-state transfers and applications for transfers within the states,” Olumekun said. “These new voter figures and inter-state transfers are being integrated into the existing register. A comprehensive and final voter register for the 2024 governorship elections in both states will be released in the coming days.”
Olumekun also mentioned that detailed analysis, including voter distribution by Local Government Areas, gender, age, occupation, and disability, has been uploaded to INEC’s website and social media platforms for public access.
According to Pathwaynews, the age distribution for new voters in Edo shows that 61,684 (51.75%) are male, and 57,522 (48.25%) are female, with 606 (0.15%) identified as persons with disabilities. In Ondo, 26,447 (45.05%) are male, 32,261 (54.95%) are female, and 324 (0.55%) are persons with disabilities.
