The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final voter register for the upcoming Governorship Elections in Edo and Ondo states. This was announced by Mr. Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, in a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Edo State has 2,629,025 registered voters, while Ondo State has 2,053,061. These registers were approved during a commission meeting in Abuja, integrating new voters from the recent Continuous Voter Registration as well as successful transfer applicants from other states.
In Edo, of the 2,629,025 registered voters, 1,370,061 (52.11%) are male, and 1,258,964 (47.89%) are female. Youths aged 18 to 35 make up 37.4% (983,133) of the voters, while the middle-aged group (36 to 49 years) constitutes 914,806 voters, representing a combined 72.2% of the electorate.
Students represent the largest occupational group with 868,764 voters (33.05%), and 4,199 registered voters (0.16%) are Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The new register reflects a 4.9% increase from the 2023 General Elections figure of 2,501,081.
In Ondo State, the voter register lists 2,053,061 individuals, with 1,034,006 (50.36%) males and 1,034,964 (47.89%) females. Youths aged 18 to 35 account for 35.41% (726,944), while those aged 36 to 49 make up 35.17% (721,982), together forming 70.57% of the total voters.
Students also dominate the occupational category in Ondo, with 694,938 voters (33.85%), and 1,782 (0.09%) registered PWDs. This new register marks a 3.0% increase from the 2023 General Elections figure of 1,191,344.
INEC has uploaded a detailed breakdown of the voter register by Local Government Areas, gender, age, occupation, and disability for each state on its website and social media platforms. The commission will soon release the timetable for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the two states.
