The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will present a softcopy of the final and comprehensive voter register to each political party fielding candidates in the upcoming Edo State governorship election on Tuesday. This announcement was made by the Commission’s Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja on Monday.
Yakubu also addressed the concerns of Ondo State voters, assuring them that steps are being taken to ensure the availability of their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) ahead of the November governorship election. He emphasized that the commission’s policy requires voters to collect their PVCs in person, with no provision for proxy collection to prevent misuse.
“As part of our preparations for the Edo State governorship election, the softcopy of the final and comprehensive register of voters will be presented to each political party fielding candidates in the election on Tuesday at our State office in Benin City,” Yakubu stated.
Yakubu further assured Ondo State voters that detailed arrangements for PVC collection would soon be announced, noting that the commission’s current focus is on the upcoming Edo election. He also confirmed that all PVCs for Edo State voters have been printed and distributed to the relevant offices for collection.
The collection of PVCs in Edo State is scheduled to take place from Thursday, August 22, to Monday, August 26, in all 192 Wards where the last Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) took place. The collection will continue in the 18 local government offices across the state from Wednesday, August 28, to Sunday, September 8, including weekends.
