Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has launched the reconstruction of a 35.6-kilometer road connecting 62 communities in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area. The road, which links Bagoma to Gagumi and passes through several communities including Ungwan Fari, Idi Labo, Awaro, Tashan Keji, and Sabon Layi, is a crucial infrastructure project aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region.
During the groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday, Sani highlighted the strategic importance of Birnin Gwari as a gateway to various parts of Nigeria, rich in mineral resources and agricultural potential. However, he acknowledged the significant security challenges the area has faced due to its vast forested landscapes, which have posed concerns for both residents and security forces.
“We are making progress in our efforts to stabilize the situation and are committed to facilitating the resumption of business activities in Birnin Gwari,” Sani stated.
The road reconstruction is part of the governor’s ‘Rural Transformation Drive,’ which focuses on addressing infrastructural deficits, bridging the urban-rural divide, boosting local economies, and making rural living more sustainable. Sani reiterated his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, particularly road construction, as a key driver of economic growth and enhanced security.
Since taking office in 2023, Sani’s government has initiated 62 road projects across Kaduna State, covering a total of 817 kilometers. “Some of these roads have already been completed, while others are nearing completion,” Sani noted. He added that the completion of the Bagoma-Gagumi road would significantly improve the socio-economic conditions of the local population, facilitating the movement of goods and people, reducing post-harvest losses, and enhancing security. The project is also expected to generate direct and indirect employment during its construction phase.
The Emir of Birnin Gwari, Jibril Zubairu, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for prioritizing infrastructure in the area. He also acknowledged improvements in security, noting that there have been no reported attacks on the Birnin Gwari road for the past six months. The Emir thanked the security agencies for their efforts in maintaining peace and stability and emphasized that the road project would greatly benefit the community by enhancing farming activities and contributing to food security.
