The Kano State government, on Thursday night, reaffirmed that Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the Emir of Kano and directed the Police Commissioner to immediately evict Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, from his current residence at the mini-palace in the Nassarawa area of the metropolis.
Addressing the media following a ruling by the Federal High Court presided over by Justice A.M. Liman, Kano State Attorney General Isa Dederi explained that the court’s decision unequivocally reaffirmed the validity of the law passed by the Kano State House of Assembly and assented to by the Governor on May 23, 2024, at 5:10 p.m.
Dederi elaborated that the court’s ruling validated all actions taken by the government before the emergence of the interim order of the court. “This means that Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the Emir of Kano,” he stated.
“Happily, the signing of the law and the reinstatement of His Highness, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, were done on May 23, 2024, before the emergence of the Interim Order, which was served on us on Monday, May 27, 2024,” he noted.
Flanked by the Commissioner of Information and other top government officials, Dederi also informed the media that the court had granted their application for a stay of proceedings pending the outcome of their appeal on jurisdiction currently before the Appeal Court.
Following the ruling, the State Government has directed the Police Commissioner to remove the deposed emir from the government property where he is trespassing, as the government has concluded arrangements for the property’s general reconstruction and renovation, including the demolition and reconstruction of the dilapidated wall fence with immediate effect.
Dederi congratulated the people of Kano State and urged them to remain peaceful and celebrate the success without any disruptions.
