Thousands of Christians in Kano State, yesterday, began a week of prayers to usher in the Peace of Christ in the state and in the country in the new year.
The prayers, which attracted Christians from the five blocks of the Christian Association of Nigeria, namely Catholics, CCN, Pentecostals, TEKAN/ECWA and OIC, was led by the Chairman of the Association and the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kano, John Namaza Niyiring.
Ushering in the week of prayers, the Bishop explained that the peace of Christ was not, “A worldly tranquility or a mere absence of conflict, but a spiritual peace rooted in our reconciliation with the Father”.
He lamented that Nigeria was presently divided by the prejudices of tribe and religion, state and politics, gender and social status adding that these should not be the case, especially in the Church.
He urged Christians everywhere to support all efforts geared towards peace -building and reconciliation in the state and the country.
Speaking to pathwaynews, the immediate past Kano State Chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Raph Olufemi Olowo underscored the need for the prayers saying Nigerians were burdened by a number of challenges ranging from the present hardship, kidnapping, insurgency and absence of genuine peace among groups and communities.
Raph, who is a Bishop and the founder, Strong Tower Evangelical Assembly in the state, said that all these were genuine reasons for Christians in the state to seek the face of God in the New year.
“The only peace that can give succor or minimize the burdens of Nigerians in the present circumstance is the peace that comes from no other person but Christ” he stated.
He assured that adequate security arrangements have been put in place at the venue of the prayer while imploring Christians in the state to troop out to participate in the prayers .
