Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, revealed on Wednesday that authorities have uncovered plots to hijack an upcoming protest in the state.
Speaking during a stakeholders meeting at the Government House in Kano, which included religious leaders and members of the business community, Yusuf disclosed that the government had received credible intelligence indicating that certain disgruntled individuals are recruiting thugs to incite trouble during the protest.
“I assure you that the government will not tolerate such actions,” Yusuf stated. “Instead, I invite those who wish to demonstrate to come to the Government House, where I will be happy to listen to their grievances and engage in constructive dialogue.”
The governor also pledged to convey the protesters’ concerns and demands to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Yusuf emphasized his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy and improving the lives of the people of Kano State. “We are united in our quest for positive change that will yield the desired objectives of peace, progress, and political stability,” he said.
He highlighted ongoing efforts by his administration, including the sponsorship of over 1,000 students pursuing various courses abroad and initiatives aimed at empowering women and combating poverty. One such program has already benefited over 5,000 women, each receiving a monthly stipend of N5,000, amounting to over N260 million.
