The Federal Government’s Palliatives Committee for Kano State, chaired by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has pledged the fair distribution of 23,644 bags of rice, each weighing 25kg, allocated to the state. The rice will be distributed to those most in need.
The committee, which includes members from various political parties such as the All Progressives Congress (APC), New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), along with representatives from religious and traditional institutions, convened at the National Assembly on Thursday to finalize the distribution process.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Senator Barau emphasized that the bipartisan committee has established comprehensive guidelines to prevent diversion and ensure that the palliatives reach the most vulnerable citizens.
A statement from Ismail Mudashir, the Special Adviser on media to the Deputy President of the Senate, listed other committee members, including Senator Kawu Sumaila (NNPP), Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Hon. Abdullahi T. Gwarzo, Minister of State (FCT) Dr. Mariya Mahmud, APC Kano State Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, and other prominent figures from Kano’s political landscape.
Senator Barau explained, “We just held a meeting to discuss how to distribute palliatives to the needy in Kano. We have created a system to ensure that these palliatives reach those who need them the most, as mandated by Mr. President.”
The rice will be distributed at the ward level across the 44 local government areas in Kano State. The ward distribution committees will ensure that each bag of rice goes to the most needy individuals, who will be identified through valid identification documents such as a National Identity Card, Driver’s license, Voter’s card, or international passport.
The committee will also maintain a list of all beneficiaries, which will be signed by the recipients and submitted to the local government committee for further reporting to the state committee.
