On Sunday, the Katsina Police successfully rescued five people from their abductors at Layin Minister village in Malumfashi Local Government Area.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the rescue operation followed a distress call reporting a bandit invasion. The statement detailed, “On August 25, 2024, at around 10:00 AM, the Malumfashi Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call about a bandit attack on Layin Minister Village, resulting in the kidnapping of five individuals.”
The police swiftly dispatched operatives to the scene. Upon their arrival, the bandits fired at the police, who responded decisively. All five kidnapping victims were rescued unharmed, while the bandits, injured by police fire, fled the scene.
Later that day, at approximately 5:40 PM, another distress call was received about an attack by armed bandits on Marabar Kankara village. The assailants, riding on twelve motorcycles and armed with dangerous weapons, took advantage of the heavy rain to carry out their attack.
The DPO Malumfashi quickly mobilized operatives who engaged the bandits in a fierce gunfight, successfully thwarting the attack. During a subsequent search of the area, two deceased suspected bandits were found.
The police are continuing efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects as the investigation progresses. Commissioner of Police Aliyu Abubakar Musa commended the bravery of the operatives and reiterated the command’s commitment to enhancing security in Katsina State.
