A group of Labour Party (LP) supporters under the banner of the Good Governance Advocacy Group, Obidients for Asue Ighodalo, has declared support for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, in the upcoming Edo State governorship election scheduled for September.
To express their support, the group held a symposium in Benin City themed “Obidients for an Edo That Works For All: The Asue Ighodalo Phenomenon.”
Austin Isikhuemen, Co-Convener of the group, stated, “The hugely successful symposium has come and gone, but its significance and impact will be long remembered.”
The group emphasized their commitment to justice, fairness, and equity as the primary reasons for endorsing Ighodalo of the PDP. They praised his pedigree, performance, and integrity, describing him as a “presidential material running a gubernatorial race.”
According to the statement, Ighodalo’s arrival at the symposium energized the audience. Known for his approachable demeanor, he mingled with guests, took selfies, and engaged in conversations.
During his speech, Ighodalo lamented Nigeria’s missed opportunities, contrasting it with Singapore’s progress. He attributed Nigeria’s development crisis to poor leadership choices and emphasized the importance of selecting competent leaders, particularly by the youth and Obidients.
Ighodalo outlined his vision for transforming Edo State into a first-world state, stressing that competent leadership at the state level could positively impact national governance.
Deputy Governor Engr. Godwin Marvelous Omobayo, a prominent Obidient, and the Director General of the State PDP Campaign Council also attended, reinforcing the alliance with the Obidients.
Professor Chris Mustapha Chukwudumebi Nwaokobia Jnr. added a national Obidient voice to the event. His passionate speech highlighted the need for competent leadership and urged Ighodalo to set a high standard for governance in Edo State.
Professor Nwaokobia reminded the audience that the Obidients movement supports justice, equity, and fairness, and in this context, endorsing Ighodalo aligns with their principles. He humorously noted the importance of not allowing any region to dominate governance unfairly.
The symposium underscored the collective support for Ighodalo, emphasizing the group’s commitment to good governance and equitable leadership in Edo State.
