It was a night of electrifying performances and nonstop fun as musical artistes lit up the stage at the New Afrika Shrine in Lagos on Tuesday, marking the celebration of Felabration 2024.
The musical concert is part of the annual Felabration festival, held in memory of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. This year’s edition, themed “Look and Laugh,” runs from October 14 to October 20.
Artistes such as Skales, May D, and Durella delivered thrilling performances that kept the audience dancing and partying throughout the night. Durella wowed the crowd with hit singles like “Shayo,” “My Life,” and “Wiskolowiska,” while May D performed fan favorites including “So Many Tinz,” “Gat Me High,” and “Shayo.”
Excited concertgoers expressed their delight at witnessing live performances from their favorite artistes. Olumide Sumi, a student, shared his excitement, saying, “I’ve never seen these artistes live before, and it’s been an incredible experience. I’ve always been a fan of Durella, Skales, and May D, and finally seeing them face-to-face is amazing.”
Another attendee, Yomi Talabi, who attended with his brothers, described the performances as fantastic. “We’ve been dancing since 7 p.m., and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. We’re looking forward to the rest of the week’s events,” he said.
Bunmi Ishola, another fun seeker, highlighted the international significance of the festival. “This annual event is crucial for promoting Afrobeats worldwide and boosting tourism in Lagos. Felabration must continue as it puts Lagos on the global map,” she said.
Felabration, known for hosting renowned international artistes, features various activities, including debates, dance competitions, and art exhibitions, all aimed at honoring Fela’s enduring legacy and societal impact.
