Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has expressed his condolences to the victims of the recent flood disaster in Gummi Local Government Area and has pledged immediate support. According to Pathwaynews, the floods, triggered by heavy rains, have resulted in the deaths of 10 people and the destruction of over 500 homes.
Gummi was identified by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) as one of the areas expected to face significant flooding during the 2024 rainy season. In response to the disaster, Governor Lawal has taken swift action.
Sulaiman Idris, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, stated that Lawal conveyed his deep concern and sympathy for those affected by the flood. “I received sad news about the flooding in some parts of the Gummi local government area,” Idris quoted the governor.
Lawal described the flood as both unfortunate and worrisome. He has been in contact with local authorities, leaders, and elders to address the situation. A delegation from the Zamfara Government has been sent to Gummi to assess the damage and provide immediate relief to the victims.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing measures to prevent future flooding and ensure that all necessary support is provided to those affected.
