Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Monday, led former governor and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, on an inspection tour of the Ibadan Circular Road Project, named in his honor.
The duo assessed the progress of the 32.2-kilometer East Wing, where infrastructure development is nearing completion. This section connects the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to Badeku Village on the Ibadan-Ile Ife Road.
The Ibadan Circular Road Project, spanning 110 kilometers, was originally conceived by Senator Ladoja during his tenure as governor between 2003 and 2007. However, Governor Makinde has taken on the task of executing the project, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Ibadan and drive industrial growth in the state.
Speaking during the inspection, Governor Makinde emphasized the significance of the project, stating, “The Circular Road will be Nigeria’s first motorway. With this road, we are redefining the city limits, not just for Ibadan but for the surrounding local governments as well.”
The Makinde administration has pledged to complete the first phase of the project, which includes the 32.2-kilometer East Wing and the 36.7-kilometer North-East Wing, extending from Badeku Village to Akinyele Local Government.
Accompanying the governor and Senator Ladoja on the tour were the Senior Executive Assistant (General Administration) to the governor, Chief Bayo Lawal, and other dignitaries.
