The military has extolled the contributions of soldiers and officers wounded in operations against terrorist groups in the restive northeast region, describing them as heroes.
Chief of Army Staff ( COAS), Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede while addressing wounded troops at an Eid fitri luncheon in Maiduguri on Monday, said the soldiers and officers have demonstrated resilience and courage in battlefields during offensive against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
“The sacrificed of our gallant troops will not go unnoticed. We salute their resilience, courage and professionalism. This is why we organized this luncheon to appreciate their and troops’ contributions,” the COAS said.
The Army Chief who was represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army Maiduguri and Commander Sector 1 of Operation Hadin Kai, Maj Gen Abubakar Haruna, said this year Ramadan which coincided with the Lent period, underscore the importance of unity in the country.
He said troops in the operation are on the battle lines while nany are celebrating the Muslim festival in the comfort of their homes. He said this shows the level of sacrifice troops make to endure peace in the country.
He urged troops not to relebt as the stability and security of the nation rest on their shoulders.
