Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, stated on Tuesday that the military and security agencies will focus on individuals attempting to destabilize Nigeria’s democratically elected government. Speaking at a joint news conference after a meeting with service chiefs and security agency heads in Abuja, Musa emphasized that the military is tracking and will apprehend those behind recent protests calling for regime change.
Musa acknowledged that some protests were sponsored, but reassured Nigerians that the military is committed to upholding law and order. He emphasized that their efforts are aimed only at those who pose a threat to the state, not innocent citizens.
The CDS called for national unity, urging stakeholders to engage in dialogue and mediation to maintain peace. He also highlighted the military’s people-centric approach, noting they are not interested in harming civilians, but will act against those who cross the line.
At the conference, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja reiterated the army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security, even as they continue to combat terrorism and banditry. Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla and Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar also spoke, affirming their respective forces’ dedication to ensuring national security and supporting Nigeria’s economic stability.
