On Saturday, Mr. Shuaibu Abubakar-Audu, the Minister of Steel Development, inaugurated the distribution of 2,600 bags of 25kg rice and 1,400 bags of fertilizers to residents and farmers across Kogi State. The initiative is part of the Federal Government’s efforts under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to enhance food production and security.
Speaking in Lokoja, Abubakar-Audu emphasized that the distribution aimed to alleviate the impact of current economic hardships on vulnerable citizens and eligible farmers. He described the gesture as “very symbolic” and a key component of his one-year anniversary in office as Minister of Steel Development.
The minister assured residents of more purpose-driven initiatives under the Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that the palliatives would be distributed fairly across all groups, including opposition party members, various ethnic and religious groups, widows, and market women throughout the three senatorial districts of the state.
Abubakar-Audu also highlighted his previous contributions, noting that he had provided N250 million in nano-business grants of N50,000 each to 5,000 beneficiaries in Kogi. He urged residents to continue collaborating with him, the state governor, and other key leaders to drive development in the state.
Regarding the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, the minister revealed ongoing efforts to expedite its revival in alignment with the president’s economic vision.
The Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo, expressed gratitude for the palliatives, acknowledging their significant impact on the community. Mr. Stephen Jibrin, Secretary of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Kogi chapter, praised the timely provision of fertilizers and assured that they would reach grassroots farmers.
