The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has appointed Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa as the new Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). This was revealed in a statement issued in Abuja by NAF Deputy Director of Public Relations, Group Captain Kabiru Ali.
The CAS also approved the redeployment of the outgoing DOPRI, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, to the newly established Civil-Military Relations Branch, where he will serve as Director of Coordination and Cooperation.
According to the statement, the appointments are part of a broader effort to enhance NAF’s public and community engagement, ensuring more effective communication with the public and stakeholders. Air Commodore Akinboyewa, from Ondo State, holds various academic qualifications and has served in key command and staff positions.
Upon assuming office, Akinboyewa expressed gratitude to the CAS for the trust placed in him, pledging to uphold NAF’s image and build on the work of his predecessor. He also called for continued support from the media to effectively communicate NAF’s efforts to the public.
Air Vice Marshal Gabkwet thanked the media for their cooperation during his tenure and urged them to extend the same support to his successor. The Chairman of the Abuja Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Mr. Stanley Ogadigu, commended the appointment of Akinboyewa, praising his professionalism and commitment to projecting NAF positively.
