Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, has announced the immediate dissolution of the management of Nasarawa United Football Club, Lafia. The decision was conveyed on behalf of Governor Abdullahi Sule on July 23, 2024.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun, former Chairman of the club, Prof. Othman Ibrahim Ahmed, confirmed the dissolution, stating, “I see it as the will of God. I am leaving with honor, as I promised the governor when I was appointed that I would bring back Nasarawa United to the NPFL, which I have done, and it is an honor.”
Prof. Ibrahim expressed satisfaction with his accomplishments, noting, “When you are in a place and you want to put things rightly, there will be a fight, and that’s it. I am happy I have done my part. I have left the club in a good state, not like what it was before.”
He highlighted the challenges faced during his tenure, saying, “How can you operate where some people want to know everything you have spent, even when you are presenting it, they still want to find fault?”
Despite these challenges, Prof. Ibrahim expressed gratitude for the governor’s support, saying, “I appreciate Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule for believing in me, and I promise not to forget it.”
The dissolution has elicited mixed reactions from fans and stakeholders, with some praising the governor’s decision and others expressing concern about the club’s future.
The Sun gathered that Prof. Ibrahim’s tenure will be remembered for his achievements, particularly leading the team back to the NPFL, and his commitment to transparency and accountability, despite the challenges he faced.
