The Police command in Akwa Ibom has confirmed the abduction of a naval rating and seven others in Ibaka Local Government Area of the state.
ASP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Eket. She stated that the victims were kidnapped on Monday at the Classic Point Hotel, Ibaka, where they had gone for relaxation.
John reported that the Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara, led a team of police officers to the community shortly after being briefed about the situation. “The Commissioner of Police has already led a team of security personnel to the community. I can assure you that with that visit by the Commissioner of Police and other strategic approaches being taken, normalcy will return,” she said.
The abductors took the victims to an unknown destination, according to John.
In response, Sub.-Lt. Nasiru Omar, the Base Information Officer, mentioned that he had yet to receive any official information about the abduction. “I don’t know anything about it yet. You know how we do things; if the incident is not official, I cannot say anything about it,” he stated.
