The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled two major cross-border drug trafficking networks, arresting six cartel leaders and seizing cocaine, opioids, and other narcotics valued in billions of naira. The busts followed extensive intelligence and surveillance efforts targeting syndicates operating in Mubi, Onitsha, and Lagos, suspected of supplying drugs to terror groups in Nigeria and Cameroon.
Arrested leaders include Ibrahim Bawuro, Najib Ibrahim, Ibrahim Umar, Nelson Udechukwu Anayo, Ezeh Amaechi Martin, and Adejumo Elijah Ishola. Bawuro and Najib were intercepted in Taraba with 276,500 tramadol pills hidden in a car, while Anayo and Martin were detained in follow-up raids in Delta and Anambra states. In another operation, Ishola was apprehended at the Seme border with cocaine and synthetic cannabis.
NDLEA also seized over 31 million opioid pills in Lagos, confiscated cannabis shipments in Plateau, Taraba, Kwara, and Edo states, and conducted sensitization campaigns nationwide. NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa praised the agency’s efforts in intensifying enforcement and public education on drug abuse.
