The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 532 parcels of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis sativa, at the Tincan Seaport in Lagos State. The seizure, which took place on Wednesday, August 7, involved a total of 265.25 kg of the drug concealed in a black Toyota Sienna bus. The vehicle was among three in a container marked MSMU 6029570 arriving from Montreal, Canada.
NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Mr. Femi Babafemi, reported that this interception was achieved through a comprehensive joint examination with the Customs Service and other stakeholders. The following day, operatives made another significant seizure of 75 parcels of the same substance, weighing 37.5 kg, in a container marked FSCU-9274613, also from Canada.
In other developments, NDLEA operatives in Adamawa, supported by Operation Farauta Sector 3, detained 49-year-old Joseph Peter on Thursday for alleged drug trafficking. Peter was found with 425 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, totaling 291.2 kg, in his Toyota Camry.
Additionally, two suspects, Adekunle Adebayo, 50, and Yahaya Mamuda, 35, were apprehended in Kano with 29.5 kg of cannabis. In Lagos, 1,169 kg of the same drug was recovered from a bus along Orchid Road, Ajah on Sunday, August 4.
Furthermore, on Friday, NDLEA officers, with support from the Nigerian Army, destroyed 1,230 kg of cannabis grown on three hectares of farmland in Ikeje Forest, Edimogo Village, Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area, Kogi. The landowner, Danjuma Maji, 40, was detained in connection with the operation.
