The Nigerian Correctional Officers Wives Association (NICOWA) in Akwa Ibom has donated foodstuffs and other essential items to inmates at the Medium Security Custodial Center in Uyo. The donation is part of the association’s efforts to support the welfare of those incarcerated.
During the presentation, NICOWA Chairperson Mrs. Angela Ezugwu, represented by Mrs. Idorenyin Archibong, emphasized that the gesture was aimed at improving the living conditions of the inmates. She encouraged the inmates to view their incarceration as an opportunity for self-reflection and personal growth.
“These rehabilitation and reintegration programs are designed to help you acquire life-changing skills and behaviors. We urge you to make the most of them,” Ezugwu said.
Deputy Controller of Corrections, Archibong Ekong, who received the items, expressed gratitude, noting that the donation was both timely and greatly appreciated. He highlighted the positive impact these contributions would have on the inmates’ welfare.
Pathway News reports that the donated items included food, clothing, toiletries, baby diapers, and sanitary pads.
