A luxury jet owned by Nigeria has been repossessed by the Chinese firm Zhongshang Fucheng Industrial Investment Ltd in Canada. According to Peoples Gazette, the Bombardier 6000 type BD-700-1A10 aircraft’s custodian paperwork was recently transferred to Zhongshang by Canadian authorities in Montreal.
This action follows a Canadian court verdict empowering Zhongshang to seize the jet from Nigeria. An anonymous source familiar with Zhongshang’s operations revealed that while the court had granted the seizure order earlier this year, the official change of custody was only recently finalized.
The source also stated, “Zhongshang will not stop seizing Nigeria’s assets worldwide until the last cent of the arbitration awards has been paid.”
Nigeria’s attempt to retain ownership of the aircraft was dismissed by Judge David Collier of the Superior Court of Quebec on March 21, 2024. This latest seizure adds to the growing list of Nigerian assets seized by Zhongshang in the United Kingdom, France, and Canada.
