The Nigerian Armed Forces Games came to a thrilling end on September 27, 2024, at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, with the Nigerian Army taking home the top honors.
The games, which kicked off on September 23, showcased the impressive skills and athleticism of Nigeria’s military personnel, with over 1,600 sportsmen and women participated.
Nigerian Army coast home 264 medals, including 172 gold, 60 silver, and 32 bronze. Nigerian Air Force came second with 187 medals, including 33 gold, 103 silver, and 51 bronze, while the Nigerian Navy came third with 129 medals, including 18 gold, 43 silver, and 68 bronze.
The Armed Forces Games, themed “Enhancing Military Professionalism through Sports*, served as a vital preparation for Nigeria’s team ahead of the Africa Military Games scheduled for November 2024 in Abuja.
Addressing the participants and sports enthusiasts, Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, who was represented by the Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, praised the military’s professionalism and combat readiness, reiterating his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Earlier, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, expressed pride and gratitude for the success of the event, highlighting the spirit of unity, discipline, and camaraderie that defines the Nigerian military.
“The Nigerian Army’s victory was a testament to the military’s commitment to excellence and teamwork.
“With the Africa Military Games on the horizon, Nigeria’s team is poised to make a strong showing.
“The success of the Armed Forces Games underscores the Nigerian military’s dedication to promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and camaraderie among its personnel”, he said.
