The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja has said that the Nigerian Army requires the necessary leadership skills to be able to operate in joint environment.
The Chief of Army Staff stated this on Tuesday when he declared open the 2024 Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Nigerian Army Doctrine and Combat development leadership workshop at TRADOC headquarters, Minna, the Niger State capital.
He said if the Nigerian Army must benefit from the emerging global trends as regards to effective leadership, the institution requires collaboration and synergy with other relevant partners.
Lt. General Lagbaja who was represented by the commander Training and Doctrine Command, Maj. General Kelvin Aligbe pointed out that the objective of the workshop is aimed at enhancing leadership skills, abilities and capabilities of the officers and solders within a joint environment, stressing that “it will equally provide valuable tools and strategies for effective team management and enhance decisions making ability”.
He reminded the officers and solders that appropriate superior authority holds the the instruction in high esteem to optmally key into this leadership package to bolster or enhance their leadership skills both in peace and war times.
According to him, the theme of this year’s workshop which is “enhancing doctrine and combat development in the Nigerian Army for effective leadership in a joint environment”, is anchored on the Chief of Army Staff command philosophy which is geared towards “transforming the Nigerian Army into a well trained, equipped and highly motivated forces towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment”.
Earlier in his welcome address the Chief of Doctrine and Combat Development, TRADOC, Maj-General Jamiu Jimoh said that based on the Nigerian Army’s experiences of a decade in fighting in retrospect, the workshop will not only exposed participants to effective and visionary leadership, but will better position and equip them to conduct further training and operation effectively.

Represented by the Director Doctrine, Major General Anthony Obiwulu, Maj-General Jimoh maintained that effective and pragmatic leadership is a panacea for the success of any military operation within a joint environment, adding that “it is therefore important for us as seasoned officers of the Nigerian Army to be able to imbibe the spirit of good leadership towards our subordinates both in war and peace times in order to achieve positive outcomes in our operations”, he added.
He equally reminded the Officers and soldiers that the workshop will not only enhance leadership abilities of commanders at all levels in a joint setting but will also facilitate the actualization of the Chief of Army Staff vision.
