Troops from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army prevented a potentially disastrous fire in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday, in a significant boost to Civil-Military relations in the area.
The incident occurred when a tanker carrying premium motor spirit overturned at Rumuokwuta Roundabout. Acting Commanding Officer of the 760 Transport Battalion, Major Almustapha Shawwal Adams, quickly mobilized the 6 Division Fire Crew to the scene, successfully preventing a fire outbreak.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, the operation was conducted in collaboration with sister agencies. Safety and security protocols were strictly followed, with the area cordoned off and preventive measures put in place.
“No life or property was lost, and the situation was brought under control,” Danjuma said. “The fire prevention response aligns with the Nigerian Army’s commitment to effective Civil-Military Relations and support for host communities.”
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, commended the troops for their swift action and reassured the residents of Rivers State of the Division’s commitment to people-focused operations, in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy.
