The Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has stressed the importance of capacity building for efficient e-border governance across the country. Nandap highlighted this during the Passing Out Parade and Presidential Inauguration of the 49th Superintendent Basic Course at the Immigration Training School, Kano (ITSK).
Nandap congratulated the 714 graduates who successfully completed training aimed at enhancing their skills in border governance, migration policies, intelligence gathering, and teamwork. She reaffirmed that the NIS would prioritize capacity building for all personnel in partnership with stakeholders through the Modernisation of Nigeria Immigration Service (MoNIS) project and other platforms.
“Capacity building is critical for efficient e-border governance, and we will continue to make it a priority for all cadres of NIS personnel,” Nandap stated. “We will also continue to improve the welfare of officers and men through timely promotions, accessible housing, and health schemes. We shall establish a Microfinance Bank in collaboration with Nigeria Immigration Cooperative Society (NIMCOS) to assist with the welfare of officers and men of the service.”
Nandap urged the graduates to avoid politics, remain security conscious, and stay dedicated and passionate about their duties. She announced the completion of the Command and Control/Data Centres at the Service Headquarters in Abuja, which would be inaugurated soon. Additionally, she directed Heads of Formations to support the automation of Passport application processes and intensify efforts to combat irregular migration.
“We are committed to the full implementation of e-border projects, including the e-Gates project and Advanced Passenger Information (API)/Passenger Name Record (PNR). This is to facilitate real-time surveillance and monitoring of expansive borders,” Nandap added.
The NIS CG thanked the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir-Yusuf, urging them to continue their support for the Service.
In his remarks, Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, recognized NIS officers as “frontline officers who protect the borders, uphold the laws, and promote the country’s values.” He urged the graduates to be professional and disciplined and called on everyone to support the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
