The Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, led by Amb. Greg Ozumba-Mbadiwe, has appointed Rosemary Ifeoma Nwokike as the new Substantive Registrar, making her the first Awka indigene to hold this position since the institution’s inception. Nwokike, a lawyer, was selected after a nationwide search and rigorous assessments.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council handed over the appointment letter to Nwokike on October 23, 2024. The appointment, which is for a five-year term, reflects the university’s commitment to merit and excellence in academic leadership.
The appointment letter stated, “In accordance with Section 6 of the First Schedule of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Act, CAP 139, LFN 2004, as amended, the Governing Council has approved your appointment as Registrar of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Your tenure is for five years, effective from October 23, 2024.”
Nwokike holds an LLM in Maritime Law and Policy, with a PhD in view, and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), along with a second degree from UNN’s Faculty of Law. Her professional career in university administration includes roles as Assistant Faculty Officer, Unit Head of Personnel Services at UNEC, and Coordinator of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Development Research.
Her leadership and involvement in professional bodies, including the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA), further underscore her extensive experience and qualifications for the role.
This appointment marks a significant milestone in Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s pursuit of excellence in educational administration.
