The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Osun State has called on youths to actively participate in the upcoming local government elections, assuring that the party will support and encourage youthful candidates to contest.
In a joint statement, the party’s Chairman, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, and Acting Secretary, Ayegbaju Celestinah, emphasized that the challenges facing Nigeria’s economy require fresh perspectives and youthful energy. They argued that positive change cannot occur if the same set of people continue to use the same approaches.
“With the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) directing political parties to hold their primaries between July 22nd, 2024, and August 23rd, 2024, our party is resolved to field capable candidates in all local governments across the state,” the statement read.
The NNPP has scheduled its primary elections for the nomination of chairmanship and councillorship candidates to take place between August 22nd and 23rd, 2024.
“Understanding that the destiny of our people at the grassroots level depends on their council leadership, we aim to effect change. We believe that when youths are given the opportunity to serve, there will be smooth operations and unprecedented development. Youths have the strength to manage local government affairs, which will ultimately improve life for the masses.”
The party stressed its belief in the leadership capabilities of youths and urged sincere and interested young individuals to join the NNPP and participate in the primaries. They also expressed confidence that OSIEC will conduct a free, fair, and credible election, changing any negative perceptions about the commission.
“Osun NNPP is poised to surprise the ruling party, having mobilized both old and new members towards winning the February 22, 2025, local government election,” the statement concluded.
