The Northern Youth Association of Nigeria (NYAN) has expressed strong support for Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun. At a press conference held in Bauchi on Tuesday, the group urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ignore any calls for Egbetokun’s removal.
Comrade Godiya T. Adams, President of NYAN, addressed the media, denouncing the individuals advocating for the IGP’s dismissal as “a group of unpatriotic and disgruntled individuals.” He described their actions as malicious, selfish, and self-centered, stating that they undermine the IGP’s efforts to elevate the Nigerian Police to global standards.
“We are aware of the irregularities and corruptions perpetrated by these retrogressive elements in the recruitment processes of citizens into the Nigerian Police,” Adams noted. “The only crime of the IGP was to reject such flawed processes. As Nigerians, we want to assure the IGP that we are solidly behind him in ensuring that things are done the right way.”
Adams highlighted the positive developments within the Nigerian Police under Egbetokun’s leadership, noting the improved conduct of the police force in their duties. He urged the IGP to remain focused on fostering a strong police-citizen relationship despite attempts to tarnish his reputation.
“We call on Mr. President to constitute a panel of investigation to properly examine the allegations of misconduct and corruption that have marred the recruitment process and bring the culprits to justice. We cannot sit back and watch a few selfish individuals dash our renewed hope,” Adams asserted.
He emphasized that Nigeria is on the path to greatness under President Tinubu and vowed that the NYAN would not allow any individual or group to derail this progress. “Our voices will always be loud,” he concluded.
