The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has confirmed that a notorious Boko Haram terrorist, Bochu Abacha, has surrendered to troops stationed in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osaba, Chief Military Information Officer of the MNJTF in Ndjamena, made this known in a statement released from Maiduguri on Saturday.
According to Osaba, Abacha, who played a significant role in numerous terrorist activities, confessed to being involved in multiple operations along the Mongunu-Baga axis. The terrorist attributed his surrender to the relentless operations by MNJTF forces and his decreasing commitment to Boko Haram’s cause.
Upon surrendering, Abacha turned in an AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 11 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, a mobile phone, an Airtel SIM card, and the sum of N32,500. Osaba noted that the former terrorist is currently cooperating with authorities and providing valuable intelligence.
In a separate operation, MNJTF troops, working alongside intelligence operatives, ambushed Boko Haram insurgents transporting large quantities of logistics supplies in three Toyota vehicles under the cover of darkness. The troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gunfight, killing one while others escaped, leaving behind their supplies.
Recovered items from the scene include three Toyota vehicles loaded with various foodstuffs, supplies, and the sum of N2,000.
