The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has revoked the certificates of 101 individuals who were graduates of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), following revelations of fraudulent mobilization. Eddy Megwa, the spokesperson for NYSC, disclosed this development in a statement on Monday, August 12.
According to Megwa, the affected individuals were fraudulently mobilized by the University of Calabar, prompting the NYSC to take decisive action. The decision to withdraw the certificates came after thorough investigations confirmed that the graduates were not eligible for mobilization into the NYSC program.
In the statement, Megwa emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the NYSC program, which plays a crucial role in national development. He reiterated that the NYSC will not tolerate any form of malpractice that undermines the credibility of the scheme.
The NYSC also issued a warning to all stakeholders, including employers, to be vigilant in verifying the certificates of graduates who claim to have completed the NYSC program. The organization urged employers to cross-check the authenticity of NYSC certificates at its headquarters before offering employment to any graduate. This step, according to the NYSC, is essential in ensuring that only those who have genuinely completed the service year are considered for job opportunities.
The withdrawal of these certificates underscores the NYSC’s commitment to upholding the values of honesty and integrity within the program. It also serves as a reminder to educational institutions and students that fraudulent practices will not be tolerated and will be met with strict consequences.
The NYSC’s action is expected to send a strong message to other institutions and graduates about the seriousness of maintaining the standards of the program, which is pivotal to fostering national unity and development.
