Senator John Owan Enoh, Minister of Sports Development, has praised Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi and Daniel Igali, President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), for their commendable gesture in hosting the Nigerian wrestling team.
At a reception held in Abuja on Saturday, Enoh acknowledged the patriotism of the athletes and officials of the NWF, despite the team not securing any medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The reception was organized to celebrate the federation’s support for its athletes.
Enoh expressed his surprise and appreciation upon receiving the invitation for the event, noting that it was both uplifting and motivating for the athletes. He thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs and highlighted the positive impact of the reception on encouraging the team.
Addressing the negative comments following Nigeria’s performance in Paris, Enoh acknowledged the public’s frustration and apologized for the disappointing results. He emphasized that the reception was a step towards celebrating the federation’s dedication and fostering pride in their efforts.
The minister also reflected on Nigeria’s past successes in international competitions, noting that despite recent challenges, the country has shown strong performances in other events, including the Africa Cup of Nations and upcoming Paralympics.
Enoh urged for patience and continued support as the country prepares for future competitions, including a return to Paris for the Paralympics. The reception honored six Nigerian wrestlers—one male and five female—who represented the nation at the 2024 Olympics.
