Oyo APC Names Moshood Olayide-Abas as Acting Chairman Following Omodewu’s Passing
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has appointed Mr. Moshood Olayide-Abas as its Acting Chairman, following the death of the party’s former chairman, Isaac Omodewu.
Prior to his new role, Olayide-Abas served as the Deputy State Chairman of the party. Both he and the late Omodewu were elected members of the APC State Executive Committee (SEC) during the party’s last state congress in October 2021.
In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, Olayide-Abas’ appointment was ratified by the SEC during an emergency meeting held on Monday in Ibadan.
“Following the passing of our former state chairman, the party’s Constitution requires that the Deputy State Chairman be elevated to Acting Chairman, which the SEC has now done,” the statement read.
The party described Olayide-Abas as a seasoned leader within the Progressives, with a distinguished track record both as a professional and politician. A certified pharmacist, he began his political career with the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in the 1970s under the mentorship of the late Bola Ige.
In 1991, Olayide-Abas became the Executive Chairman of the old Ifeloju Local Government Area, which was later split into Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North LGAs. He also served as Chairman of the Oyo State Hospital Management Board during the first term of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi. Between 2004 and 2009, he held various party positions under the defunct Action Congress (AC) and later the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
