With the Edo State Governorship Election scheduled for September 21, 2024, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Asue Ighodalo has toured five cities in Europe to meet with Edo citizens in the diaspora.
In a statement by Nosakhare Onaiwu, Deputy Diaspora Head of the Ighodalo/Ogie Movement, it was noted that this European tour was crucial given Edo State’s significant diaspora population. The tour, spanning from June 24 to June 29, 2024, included town-hall meetings where Ighodalo shared his vision for Edo State’s future.
“In expressing an unparalleled commitment to an Edo State that works for all, the Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie ticket engaged with Edolites in diaspora across Europe,” the statement read. “It was a tour, a trip, a town-hall meeting, and a uniquely educational engagement.”
Ighodalo addressed various issues, including infrastructure, education, trade and investment, tourism and culture, security, healthcare, skill acquisition, job creation, agriculture, and food security. He also emphasized his plans to support small businesses and create a secure environment for diaspora investments.
A notable moment during the tour was in Reggio Emilia, Milan, Italy, where Ighodalo addressed a Special NBA Business Forum virtually, discussing foreign direct investment as a means to economic stability and investment security. He promised to establish a special agency to partner with the Edo diaspora, ensuring the safety and protection of their investments.
The statement concluded by highlighting Ighodalo’s frontrunner status in the governorship race and encouraging Edo citizens to vote for him on September 21, 2024, as the right choice for the state’s future.
