The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu for his failure to address the nation during the ongoing EndBadGovernance protests, which have erupted across various cities including Abuja, Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, and Rivers. These protests, driven by widespread economic hardship, have seen many Nigerians taking to the streets to demand an end to hunger and poor governance.
In a statement released on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP urged President Tinubu to break his silence and promptly address the nation. The party called for immediate action on several critical issues, including reducing the price of petroleum products, stabilizing the Naira, and ensuring the swift provision of food. They argue that these measures are essential for revitalizing the productive sector, creating jobs, and restoring stability.
The PDP expressed concerns that Tinubu’s silence signals a dangerous lack of sensitivity from the All Progressives Congress (APC) government towards the citizens’ distress and the nation’s dire situation. The statement highlighted the troubling nature of the APC-controlled security agencies’ violent response to unarmed protesters, and the alleged involvement of APC-affiliated thugs in further violence against innocent Nigerians.
The PDP demands that President Tinubu end his silence, address the nation, and reassure citizens on pressing issues such as reducing fuel and food prices. The party also calls for a thorough investigation into the alleged killings of protesters and urges security agencies to uphold professionalism in their duties. Additionally, the PDP advocates for the recovery of over N50 trillion reportedly stolen by APC leaders, reducing tariffs on essential goods, cutting the cost of governance, and redirecting recovered funds to programs benefiting the Nigerian people.
