Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, reiterated his dedication to improving Nigeria by investing in health and national development. Obi made these remarks during a visit to Grimard College of Nursing Sciences in Anyigba, Kogi State, where he donated N10 million for the training of nurses, highlighting their crucial role in primary healthcare.
Obi emphasized that Nigeria’s underdevelopment stems from insufficient investment in vital sectors such as health, education, and poverty alleviation. He linked the country’s security and socio-economic issues to this lack of investment.
“I consistently urge all levels of government to prioritize health and education. Additionally, I call on donor agencies to support these areas. Investing in our children’s future benefits society and propels national progress,” Obi stated.
Addressing the nursing students, Obi praised their profession for its dedication to humanity. He stressed the importance of training more nurses to address both local healthcare needs and the global shortage of healthcare professionals.
“I am deeply concerned about ensuring adequate nurse training. By investing in their education, we can support our domestic health sector and contribute to the global workforce,” he added.
Obi expressed gratitude to the College’s Proprietor, Bishop Anthony Ademu Adaji, and the institution’s management and staff for their dedication to nurturing skilled and compassionate healthcare workers.
“Our vision is to build a New Nigeria that provides quality healthcare and educational opportunities for all. It is achievable,” Obi concluded.
