Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has condemned the seizure of three Nigerian presidential jets by a French court, calling it an international embarrassment. In a statement on his X handle, Obi criticized the secrecy surrounding the purchase and sale of these jets, emphasizing that they belong to the Nigerian people.
Obi lamented the incident as a reflection of failed leadership and a disregard for the rule of law. He highlighted the irony of spending $100 million on presidential jets amidst Nigeria’s severe economic hardships and poverty. Obi also called for greater transparency and accountability from the government, questioning how the situation unfolded and urging a thorough investigation into the handling of the jets.
