There was pandemonium in Abuja, when operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Monday, arrested two protesters.
The protesters were arrested shortly after police fired teargas canisters at the gathering, which had begun to gain momentum in the Federal Capital Territory.
The police action sent triggered panic, forcing protesters and journalists covering the protest to run for their lives.
It was gathered that the , two protesters were chased down and apprehended by the police.
One of the leaders of the protest in Abuja, Rex Elanu, who confirmed the arrest to journalists identified those taken into custody as a female protester, Bosede, and another demonstrator popularly known as “Flagboy.”
He said “Our protest was violently dispersed. Bosede and Flagboy have been arrested. Flagboy is the one you saw carrying the Nigerian flag,” Elanu said.
The protest is part of a broader nationwide demonstration calling attention to economic hardship, alleged government repression, and growing insecurity across the country.
