The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has banned the procession of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) to commemorate the 2024 Islamic calendar day of Ashura in Abuja. This was stated by the Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The police revealed that intelligence indicated that members of the proscribed organization, also known as Shi’ite, were planning a procession to mark Ashura. According to the police, previous activities by IMN members have often led to significant disturbances, resulting in anarchy and chaos within the territory.
The police spokesperson warned any individual or member of the proscribed organization to refrain from any form of protest or procession in the FCT. She emphasized that the command would not hesitate to use every legal means necessary to halt or incapacitate anyone who dares to violate the ban.
Adeh reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, assuring that all necessary measures would be taken to prevent any activities that threaten the safety and well-being of the populace.
