Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a 54-year-old man, Chizoke Obiadada, and his 17-year-old son on allegations of fatally assaulting their neighbor’s wife, Tope Owoade, aged 43.
According to SP Omolola Odutola, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the arrests were made on Friday following an incident stemming from an intense argument. The altercation escalated tragically, resulting in the death of Tope Owoade.
Reportedly, the confrontation began when Tope objected to the suspects sitting on her designated “work table” utilized for selling animal skin (ponmo). This simple disagreement spiraled out of control, leading to a violent assault.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogijo Division received a complaint from Isiaka Owoade, the deceased’s husband, detailing the horrific events. Isiaka recounted that upon his return from a trip, his wife informed him of the assault she endured the previous day at the hands of their neighbors.
Tope was brutally beaten, causing severe injuries, including significant bleeding. Despite efforts to seek medical assistance, she was rejected by two private hospitals and tragically succumbed to her injuries while being transported to a government hospital.
In response to the report, the DPO swiftly apprehended the perpetrators. Both Chizoke Obiadada and his son are currently undergoing preliminary investigations, with plans to transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further scrutiny.
Efforts are underway to arrange for the post-mortem examination of Tope’s remains at the morgue of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu.
